What is an Aging Services Access Point (ASAP)?
There are 24 ASAPs across the Commonwealth, all contracted with the Executive Office of Aging & Independence, that provide programs and services designed specifically to support adults aged 60 and older, and their caregivers. From exploring care options and assistance with nutrition and food security, to support with housing, health, financial wellness, transportation, and safety, ASAPs are there to help.
ASAPs provide the following services:
- Home Care Programs: They help you stay safe and comfortable at home. ASAPs set up visits for things like personal care, homemaking, and home-delivered meals.
- Senior Nutrition: Many older adults receive free meals, either at centers or at home.
- Options Counseling: A worker helps you explore care choices and find programs that match your needs.
- Caregiver Support: ASAPs help families by giving advice, emotional support, and referring to help services.
- Community Transition Liaison Program (CTLP): Helps adults (age 22+) move from nursing homes back to community life.
- Supportive & Congregate Housing: Work with older residents in shared living settings to provide support and social activities.
- Protective Services: 19 ASAPs act as official Protective Services Agencies to help stop elder abuse, neglect, or self-neglect.
Plus, ASAPs offer:
- Information & Referral: Free advice on aging resources.
- Adult Protective Services: A hotline for reporting elder mistreatment, available 24/7.
- Money Management: Helps older adults manage budgets, bills, and bank accounts.
- Health Insurance Counseling (SHINE): Free help understanding Medicare and other plans.
- Behavioral or Mental Health Support: Includes counseling for depression, substance use, or stress; may also include peer support and specialized programs like Healthy IDEAS.
